About

About Pooja Sahitya

Pooja Sahitya is a counseling psychologist and psychotherapist with over 2,400 hours of academic and psychotherapy training and supervision, and 14 years of experience working with individuals and organisations.

People often come to me with a sense of not having been fully seen, heard, or held, in their relationship with themselves, with others, and in their professional lives. Often, there is a deep longing for safety.

My work is to offer a steady space where you can feel safe, make sense of your experiences, and begin to heal and grow at your own pace.

Every person is essentially OK. When we're seen through the lens of our whole story, without judgment or urgency, healing becomes possible.

I have always been drawn to the stories people don't easily tell, the parts of themselves that sit beneath success, competence, and everyday functioning. From a young age, I found myself listening closely to colleagues, strangers, and later, clients, sensing that behind what people do lies a deeper why. That curiosity continues to shape my work.

My professional journey began in the corporate world, where I spent over 14 years as a Leadership Trainer working across aviation, IT, healthcare, finance, and manufacturing. I supported leaders and teams to grow, communicate better, and perform more effectively. Yet over time, I noticed something important: real and lasting change rarely comes from surface-level strategies alone. Many people, regardless of their achievements, were quietly carrying old emotional wounds and life patterns formed much earlier.

This realisation led me to go deeper. I trained as a counseling psychologist and psychotherapist. I now work with individuals across India and beyond, creating a space where people can safely explore not just their present challenges, but the deeper patterns shaping how they think, feel, and relate.

Safety is the cornerstone of my practice: physical, emotional, and psychological. Whether you are navigating anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, work stress, or a sense of feeling lost, I offer a steady and compassionate presence. At the heart of my work is a belief rooted in Transactional Analysis: every person is essentially OK. When we are seen through the lens of our full story, without judgment or urgency, meaningful healing becomes possible.

Alongside my mental health work, I continue to partner with organisations to offer training, coaching, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).

My approach

How therapy with me works

My work draws on Transactional Analysis, Somatic work, Psychodrama, Gestalt therapy, and REBT, always paced by what feels safe for you. Rather than a fixed sequence, these are approaches I draw on as they fit what you need.

Transactional Analysis

Understanding your patterns

In therapy, we begin by understanding the patterns that shape how you relate to yourself and others. These patterns are approached with care and context, not judgment. As they become clearer, you are less driven by automatic responses and begin to experience more choice in the present.

Somatic work

Listening to the body

At the same time, we pay attention to the body. Many stress responses and protective reactions are held physically, shaped by earlier experiences. By slowing down and noticing these responses together, we support the body in feeling safer. As safety grows, it becomes easier to stay present with difficult feelings and inner experiences.

Psychodrama

Working with inner experience

When there is enough safety, we may gently bring inner experiences into the room through psychodrama and other experiential methods. This allows parts of you that once learned to cope or stay safe to be seen and integrated. Through this process, your capacity to respond with awareness strengthens, replacing old survival patterns with more flexible and supportive choices.

The scripts we live by are based on early decisions, and because they were once decided, they can always be re-decided.

Eric Berne

At the heart of my work is a belief articulated by Eric Berne: the ways we live are shaped by early decisions made in response to our environment. These decisions once helped us adapt and survive, and because they were once decided, they can be re-decided. Therapy becomes a space where this possibility can be explored with care and dignity.

FAQ

Questions you might be holding

Last reviewed: 29 August 2026

How do I know if I need therapy?

If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or find yourself repeating the same struggles, therapy can help. You don't need a crisis to start. Therapy is for anyone looking for deeper self-awareness, emotional support, or personal growth.

Is online therapy effective?

Yes, research shows online therapy can be as effective as in-person sessions. It's convenient, private, and allows you to access expert support from anywhere.

What happens in the consultation call?

The consultation call is a free, 30-minute safe space to understand your concerns, explore what brought you to therapy, and discuss the approach that best fits your needs. There's no pressure, just a conversation to see if therapy feels right for you.

What are the charges for therapy sessions?

The introductory consultation call is free, and regular sessions are charged at ₹3,500 per session. I maintain a limited number of sliding-scale slots for those in genuine need. These are subject to availability and considered strictly on a case-by-case basis.

How long does therapy take?

Therapy isn't a one-size-fits-all process. Some people find clarity in a few sessions, while deeper work may take longer. I will work with you at a pace that feels right for you.

Will my sessions be confidential?

Absolutely. Everything you share remains strictly confidential, following ethical guidelines. Your privacy and trust are my top priorities.

I've tried therapy before, but it didn't help. How will this be different?

Many people feel this way when therapy only focuses on quick fixes. I work at a deeper level, exploring the why behind your struggles, so you experience real, lasting change.

Can therapy help with relationship issues, even if I come alone?

Yes, you don't need your partner to be in therapy for it to improve your relationship. By understanding your own patterns, setting boundaries, and communicating better, you can create positive changes even if you're the only one in therapy.

Can we work across time zones?

Yes, many of my clients are NRIs or global Indians. I offer flexible slots, including evenings and weekends, to fit your schedule. If you're living abroad, you may also want to read about online therapy for NRIs and global Indians.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, I focus on talk therapy and body-based techniques. If medication is needed, I can refer you to a trusted psychiatrist.

Still unsure? That's okay, the consultation call is free, and there's no pressure to continue.
